Using the power of the moon phases to your advantage

What’s up badddd bitch? How are we feeling this week as we are just a few days away from Christmas? Maybe you’re feeling a mixture of excitement to see loved ones, maybe some relief to have a few days off of work, perhaps some sadness for loved ones you miss, and a dash anticipation to get through the craziness of the holidays and into a fresh new year … I know I am!

Besides special time with my loved ones, I think I’m most looking forward to the last week of December where I’ll have time to reflect on all this year has brought me and taught me. The experiences I’ve had, what I’m grateful for, the goals I’ve completely NAILED, and my wishlist of all the things I want to manifest in the year to come.

If you’re feeling the same way - girl, we are in LUCK because there is a New Moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. And essentially what that means is this is the perfect time to relax, set your intentions of what you want more of, commit to a new routine, and start a new project. And as we know, Capricorn’s are known for takin’ care of business and gettin’ shit DONE.

Now before I get ahead of myself, since obviously we’re going to be talking about the power of moon phases… I wanted to let you in on a lil secret about how I’ve maximized my energy using the moon phases.

So I get asked a lot how I am able to balance my 9-5, going to school, having sessions with clients, planning and creating content consistently, going to the gym, spend time with loved ones, and more. Well besides creating a schedule that allows me to be efficient AF (more on that next Wednesday), I also use the lunar cycle to my advantage. For example - when it’s a New Moon I know I’ll be lower energy and use the down time to scheme my next dreams and plans, but when it’s a Full Moon and I have the most energy I’ll finish up projects, collaborate, and plan to socialize more.

I’m sure if you’re listening to this you already believe in the energetic power of the moon, BUT for any of the skeptics out there, here me out. The moon controls the tides, it’s shaped how we understand and track time, AND it’s often associated with female menstrual cycles since they’re about the same amount of time as a lunar phase (about 27 days).

I like to think of it as the moon shifting the tides of our energy since our bodies are made up of about 60% of water (I personally thought it was way more than that, but that’s what google said so here we are). And on top of all the other similarities and associations, we also know the moon phases are also a cycle which can tie back to the birth, death, and rebirth of the life cycle. And hello?? What about Farmer’s Almanacs?

So now that you’re obviously convinced of Moon Magic, I want to talk through the 8 phases and what action you can take today to utilize that lunar goodness.

Let’s chat through each moon phase and it’s vibe~. I’ll also include a journal prompt question and self-love/self-care ideas for each phase.

Since we have a new moon coming up, let’s start there:

New Moon

This is when the sky is dark and the moon seems invisible. It’s time for a new beginning, a new cycle.

Ask yourself: What do you want to manifest this next cycle? What do you want to leave behind?

Self-love: Journaling, Vision boards

Waxing Crescent Moon

We are planting the seeds of our ideas. This is when we are going to cultivate willpower and push the idea into fruition.

Ask yourself: What would make me super excited and motivated to go after what I want to manifest?

Self-love: Read a book or listen to a podcast dedicated to what you want to manifest (or your goal, idea)

First Quarter Moon

It’s time to take action once the moon looks like it’s only half-full. That also means we need to overcome any obstacles we face.

Ask yourself: What is the first step I can take to making my dream/goal/ manifest happen? If I come across a challenge: what are my options to overcoming it? And what is the smallest thing I can do make my way through it?

Self-love: Schedule time to work towards your dreams/goals, celebrate your wins

Waxing Gibbous Moon

We are close to our goals, but need to check if they’re possible or if we need to change course.

Ask yourself: How far am I from reaching my goal? What needs more attention or adjustment?

Self-love: Time with loved ones, meditation, nature walks

Full Moon

The night sky is bright, and it’s time to receive the gifts of your ideas/intentions/goals (even from many new moons ago). From here, the moon will go from waxing to waning - signaling our journey to look inside instead of outward.

Ask yourself: What’s working and what isn’t? How am I personally feeling at this moment in time?

Self-love: Celebrate your wins, take yourself on a date, do tarot

Waning Gibbous Moon

Time to reflect. This stage, similar to the waxing gibbous means it’s a great time to refine. Instead of looking at what you can do, think about how you feel.

Ask yourself: What am I feeling right now? What emotions are coming up for me and why?

Self-love: Journaling, chat with your bff, creating art

Third Quarter Moon

It’s time to release and let go of habits and thoughts that aren’t serving you. Forgiveness is key so we can cleanse and prepare for the final phase.

Ask yourself: What thoughts or habits are holding me back? What can I do instead?

Self-love: Dancing, Singing, Forgiveness and self-love Mediation, Bath, hug yourself

Waning Crescent Moon

Time to recoup and recharge. We have to shake off the last cycle before we can be fully open to starting the next one.

Ask yourself: What do I need most in order to recharge?

Self-love: Take a nap, have a day with zero to-do’s

Now that we’ve gone through all the phases let’s make this simple on how you can utilize it. Here are the 3 things I do to make sure I’m aware of what’s going on with the Moon.

  1. I would suggest downloading an app to track the phases. I love using the It’s Just a Phase app because you can also see which astrological sign the moon is in in each phase which provides a little more context to the vibe at a particular time. The Pattern app is also great at highlighting New Moons and Full Moons, and always provides a great list of questions to ask yourself during those phases.

  2. Mark your calendar with New Moons and Full Moons so you get the gist of the cycle and where your energy may be. If you have certain projects you want to start or finish, jot them down accordingly.

  3. Create a mini moon ceremony. Take time to journal, whip out your crystals, light some candles, and connect with yourself on those dates. I like to tell myself I’m having a lil “full moon ceremony”, even if it’s just 20 minutes. You may even have a local Moon ceremony you can attend, I know that’s an experience I’d love to host in 2023!

At the very least, using these 2 moon phases to your advantage will help bring some awareness and intentionality to your life. You’ll also get some time to reconnect with yourself, and sometimes we can use any excuse we can get to do that during our busy lives!

Now that you have all you need to harness that moon energy, let’s see what tarot card Pep’s got for us this week…

Peppy’s Tarot pull of the week:

This week is exciting because we’re going to use a NEW and very special tarot deck!! My dear friend Veronica lives in New Zealand and she sent me the Queer Tarot Deck by Ash + Chess as a surprise - so what better time to break it out!? It is literally the most fun, funky and creative deck I’ve ever seen! Also each illustration is modeled after someone, and in the guidebook it tells you their name and pronouns. If you haven’t seen it, please do yourself a favor and look it up! Shout out to V-Ron for such a thoughtful and fun gift <3

Ok Peppy Pep, pick a card any card:

We have the Page of Wands. We have a gal with a staff (or wand) and it looks like she’s on Mars with a universe of stars in the background. This stands for free spirit, discovery, and inspiration. (Im’ going to read directly from the guidebook) —

Ok y’all that’s what we got this week! Thanks so much for reading <3 I hope learning about the moon phases has been helpful to you in some way, and that you harness the power of this upcoming New Moon to your advantage! Let me know in the comments what you want to manifest during this New Moon.

As always, if you’re enjoying the blog, please share and comment - I love hearing from you guys!

I hope you guys have an AMAZING Christmas, I’ll be thinking about you!! Please have safe travels, and take care. LOVE YOU! Byeeee.
